About E-SAFIRI
E-Safiri is an early-stage start-up that aims to drive Africa’s transition into sustainable transport by developing solar-powered and grid-connected charging stations for 2&3 wheelers. Our mission is to accelerate the adoption of sustainable transport by providing reliable, accessible, and adequate charging infrastructure for e-mobility in Africa. E-Safiri has recently secured funding for several charging projects working in collaboration with NGOs, universities and commercial partners and is growing its team and developing its products.
Position Summary
The Electrical Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, operation and maintenance of the Company's electrical infrastructure supporting Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS), commercial ice- making, renewable energy and related operations. The role ensures that electrical systems operate safely, reliably and efficiently through timely execution of preventive and corrective maintenance activities. Working under the guidance of the Electrical Engineer, the Electrical Technician supports electrical installations, fault diagnosis, inspections, breakdown response and routine maintenance while maintaining accurate maintenance records and complying with the Company's safety and quality standards. The position requires frequent travel to operational hubs and project sites across Kenya and involves predominantly field-based work.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Electrical Maintenance
- Perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance on electrical systems and equipment in accordance with approved maintenance schedules and procedures.
- Inspect electrical installations to identify faults, deterioration and safety hazards, and report findings to the Electrical Engineer.
- Repair or replace defective electrical components to restore equipment to safe and reliable operating conditions.
- Maintain electrical tools, testing instruments and work areas in a clean, organized and serviceable condition.
2. Battery Charging Infrastructure and Power Systems
- Install, inspect and maintain battery charging equipment, electrical distribution systems, protection devices and associated infrastructure.
- Monitor charger performance and report equipment faults or abnormal operating conditions.
- Assist in troubleshooting electrical faults affecting battery swapping operations and charging infrastructure.
- Support routine maintenance of grid-connected electrical systems, distribution boards and backup power equipment.
3. Solar PV and Electrical Infrastructure
- Assist in the installation, inspection and maintenance of solar PV systems, hybrid inverter systems, battery energy storage systems and related electrical equipment.
- Maintain electrical wiring, lighting systems, power outlets, earthing systems and electrical panels across Company facilities.
- Support testing and inspection of electrical installations to ensure compliance with safety requirements and operational standards.
- Report defects requiring engineering review or corrective action.
4. Communication Systems and Installation Support
- Assist in installation and maintenance of CCTV systems, networking equipment, Wi-Fi infrastructure, smart meters and IoT devices supporting operational hubs.
- Support electrical installations during construction, expansion and equipment upgrade projects.
- Assist contractors and engineers during installation, testing and commissioning activities.
- Ensure all assigned electrical work complies with approved procedures, technical specifications and safety requirements.
5. Documentation and Safety
- Record maintenance activities, inspections, repairs and equipment replacements using approved maintenance records and reporting systems.
- Report equipment faults, maintenance requirements and safety concerns promptly to the Electrical Engineer.
- Comply with occupational health, electrical safety and environmental requirements while using appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Maintain good housekeeping in electrical areas, workshops and operational hubs.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Electrical Engineer.
6. Financial Responsibility
- Ensure proper use and care of Company electrical tools, testing equipment and maintenance materials.
- Minimize wastage of electrical consumables, spare parts and installation materials.
- Support inventory control by reporting material usage and replenishment requirements.
- Safeguard Company electrical assets through proper installation, maintenance and operation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Craft Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field from a recognized institution.
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field will be an added advantage.
- Valid Electrical Wireman's License, Solar PV certification, or other relevant electrical certifications will be an added advantage.
- Kenyan Driving License will be an added advantage.
- At least one (1) year of practical experience in electrical installation, maintenance, industrial operations or related environments.
- Experience working with electrical distribution systems, solar PV systems, battery charging infrastructure or industrial electrical installations will be an added advantage.
- Experience in renewable energy or electric mobility operations is desirable.
